Discovery 2 Front Driveshafts

Discovery 2's are a great vehicle but they have an achilles heel: their front driveshafts.  The factory driveshafts were not able to be greased and can lead to great damage to the drive train of the vehicle.  The driveshafts on average can last between 60,000 to 90,000 miles before they start to show signs of failure.

Signs of failure are vibrations around 70 mph (some have said they can feel a slight vibration around 35 mph).  If the centering kit is starting to fail, you can hear a slight chirping noise.  If you climb under your rover, you'll see rust colored dust around the u-joints.

It is best to replace the driveshaft with a driveshaft that is able to be greased.  When the driveshaft is replaced it's best to grease it every 3,000 miles recommended when changing out the oil.  Also, upgrading the grease to one that withstands higher temperature, helps between greasing.
